I’m going to SMX!

For better or worse, I decided it would be a good idea to go. Marks & Spencer are paying for me to go, as in their credit card is . Sadly, I think they expect me to give the money back at some point? Or can I just change my name and move to another country?

Obviously, seeing as I’m paying, it’ll be a jetsetting, no-expense spared affair. I shall be staying here , which I think beats even Dixon “Black Hat” Jones’ record of cheap conference hotels? At least mine supposedly has a shower in the room, although the pictures look rather naff so I dread to think what it looks like in reality without the flattering lighting and angles.

I’ve never paid for my own conference before. It’d better be worth it!

In between sessions, I will be begging for money on the street. Please give generously. I promise I won’t spend it all on crack.

Roles women play in order to succeed in business

It’s hard being a woman in a male-dominated business world where men are still dictating the rules and calling the shots. To survive, women adapt themselves to the needs of their environment and, often subconsciously, take on certain easily-digestible, archetypical roles that make it easier for men to accept them into the business “family”. Based on the roles women play in men’s personal lives, the business equivalents can sometimes be double-edged swords for the women involved but are nonetheless a useful survival mechanism often essential to their career development.

More than a third of UK blogs contain derogaory information about the bloggers’ companies

BBC Article here

Foolish bloggers! Don’t you know you must never ever slag off your company in your blog? Obviously, I would never risk getting the sack like that (so I left the company).

I’m surprised so many people use their blogs to vent about work. I guess those statistics refer to people slagging off their companies in their personal blogs, rather than dedicating a whole blog to talking about how bad their companies are.

Someone added me on Linkedin today, so I logged in to accept and found myself reading a few of the “question” discussions. Someone had this great quote:

A good Manager does things right, while a good Leader does the right things

It got me thinking about the Evil Empire and the changes that happened since the takeover, as well as a few other companies I worked for in the past.

It’s hard work, no longer having a cushy travel budget. :(

Trying to decide whether I can afford to go anyway…

We own you

Well, well. After all this talk about younger men being the techies and spending all their time online, here come the result of a new research showing us all where it’s really at.

Yup. In the UK, at least, it looks like the heaviest Internet users are women (18-34). God knows what all the young men are doing. Has the Internet run out of porn so soon? Surely not.

Here’s to sad, lonely female nerds everywhere!

Yay us….. I think?

Meanwhile, back at the farm…

I go on holiday for a week and two more people hand in their notice at the place I just left. That’s 4 people leaving/resigning within the space of one month. It’s kinda funny. OK, it’s a lot funny. Once again I’m the first rat off the ship…

I will be away until the 15th of May
